It happened at MP 149 on the coast between soledad and king city......6000 ton southbound ballast train, cause yet to be determined.

more info, have heard it was 900 feet of track involved.

Doesn't the track always seem to wash out on the Coast Line? Anyway this derailment was already posted, two posts down.

I saw that but hit the "new thread" by mistake. Maybe we can get pics of this because its right next to the public road thru the area involved.

Hmmm. Ballast train came WB through here one side of Midnight or the other, had UP 3989 and UP 984X, ex SP SD70M and ex DRGW SD50 (both yellow, of course). Hope the power and crew made out alright.

To add insult to injury this may have been a train that was going to the problem spot at Santa Margarita. That little track geometry car sure causes lots of problems!

back years ago during winter time before el ninio there was a year when 120 slow order from watsonville to san luisobisbo were on the coast route . it has had lots of battles with mother nature.

Broken wheel on the fourth car from the rear, causing it and the following three cars to overturn. The car ahead of it also derailed, but did not overturn.
