Western Railroad Discussion > The Right Place at The Right TimeDate: 11/04/09 17:48 The Right Place at The Right Time Author: GrandeGold Union Pacific's MHKPV (Hinkle, OR to Provo, UT) manifest curves through the Jordan Narrows on a beautiful autumn afternoon in 2006. Several new GE deliveries were arriving at that time, and this was my first featuring all new power. In fact, I didn't have a clue this new consist was headed my way at all. Just lucky on that day I guess.
Enjoy, James Date: 11/04/09 18:31 Re: The Right Place at The Right Time Author: PasadenaSub A perfect photo, James. Did you get a new slide scanner, or had you already gone digital by that date in 2006?

I went digital in March of 2006, soon after my Canon F-1 film camera died. Never looked back. James Date: 11/04/09 20:05 Re: The Right Place at The Right Time Author: jmw Nice catch in good light. Doesn't get much better.

i'm going to have to turn down my monitor a bit. . . those surreal colors are causing smoke to come out of the back of it. . Date: 11/04/09 22:51 Re: The Right Place at The Right Time Author: fjc Now THAT is a spectacular photo, indeed the right place at the right time, the colors, the composition, the scenery, the train, it is just all so right.

Great shot, your composition is always spot on. That curve brings back great (scary) times. In 1969 I was working as a welder's helper for the D&RGW and while I was grinding a joint to get it ready to be repaired. The welder who was supposed to be watching for traffic since we didn't have a block decided to take a short break. It they hadn't sounded their horn I believe I would have been an plow ornament. The butt kickin' that took place right after that was quite interesting. I admire all of his work, and in trying to do my own photography I realize that it takes a lot of thought and effort.
But sometimes an unexpected gift arrives like a matched set of power....now that is luck. |
