Two photos on http://www.intercotwest.com/ taken yesterday (1/22/2001) show that the California Zephyr FP-7 #804-A at Disney California Adventure now sports a WESTERN PACIFIC LOGO! See:

There are several posts on TrainOrders Western Discussion talking about this train at Disney California Adventure. With the exception of the front of the F-unit everything else was made by Disney Imagineers. To recap the photo links:

From where did they get the F-Unit front? Which road and number?

Saw the photo, yet there is a slight scale difference. Is it the WP Herald or the wings?

It's the herald. It's a bit too small. The reason why it's so noticeable is the large white border around it.

Other than that...not bad for a theme park.

Although it's clearly representing an F-Unit now, Disney's new cab is actually that of a UP E-Unit, sorry, I can't recall the number. The unit was scrapped early last year and with the cab being sold-off separately to a "private party" in California.

Seeing as the unit came from Cheyenne, I wonder if Mr. Krieger might have some information on this. Bob?

The cab came from Union Pacific E-8 #928, that was the subject of a thread a couple of weeks ago. For those of you who don't remember the thread, here is a brief synopsis of its post Amtrak career:

It was retained by the UP for its business trains along with 3 other E-9A's and four E-9B's. In 1980 all the E units were retired, and all but E-9A #951 and #928 were sold for scrap and subsequently cut up. #951 was stored intact in the Cheyenne Roundhouse until 1986 when it was reactivated, and subsequently rebuilt in the early 90's.

#928 was stripped of its prime movers, traction motors, and generator, and the shell was donated to the Western Heritage Museum in Omaha. The unit was heavily vandalized because it was not fenced in, and later sold by the museum to an unknown party (apparently Disney) who wanted to cut off the cab. Apparently this is the final fate of #928.

How's that for a turn of fate??? Sorry to hear of the passing of an E-8, but hey...... The UP ruined so many of the WP's locomotives through sell offs and scrappers, So one UP unit in my opinion is justifiable. Glad to see that the "new" 804-A got her nose emblem, even if it is a little too small. Wonder if the FRRS had anything to do with it? Now if they could just get the Western Pacific lettering on the side of the 804, a lot of us would be REAL happy campers!

Can anybody provide any info on the passenger cars? They both sure look like they were divined from real CZ cars, even though they appear to be roughly 35 feet long now. Please don't tell me they cut up a former CZ Dome for this thing?!?

No CZ Dome was touched.
