Northbound UP Tender on I 25
Author: grande473

I saw a Union Pacific tender on a flatbed trailer northbound on I 25 between Pueblo and Colorado Springs. It was a tender off a small oil-burner. I didn't get a number. Does anybody know anything about this?
Also, does anybody know anthing about steam locomotives that will be operated between Alamosa and Creede. I did not know of any steam engines heading that way. Also I though the Creede tourist line was in supended animation.

This may or may not be at all related, but could this be the same tender that was sitting in an equipment lot around Helper or Martin, Utah for years? I remember seeing a small Vanderbilt tender & it was a surprize.

I am not up on my tenders so I don't know if this was a Vanderbilt tender or not. It was a square box-like tender on two four-wheel trucks. It had an oil bunker and a large sandbox on the front. I first I thought it was a tank headed for Fort Carson but it was painted black. It is smaller than the tanks going out of Fort Carson.

Florida East Coast 4-6-2 #148 is headed to the valley for use on the Creede Branch tourist line. It is being transported from Traverse City, MI on a depressed-center TTX flat for the locomotive and a heavy-duty TTX flat for the tender. Supposed to be headed to Denver from Cheyenne via UP Greeley Sub on Friday 3/11. It will go from Denver to Walsenburg via UP and then interchanged to San Luis & Rio Grande for the final leg of the trip over La Veta Pass through Alamosa and on to Monte Vista or South Fork. This is supposed to happen on a special Saturday run, but I would guess that's up in the air if it will only make it as far as Denver by tomorrow afternoon.

Edit: I didn't catch Tyler's 2nd post on the D&RGW list. I guess it was going to move Cheyenne - Denver today 3/10. So there is a chance it will go to Walsenburg by Saturday.

Appears that Black Hills Central #7 was in New Mexico for a movie shoot and is returning home to South Dakota.
