Western Railroad Discussion > SP Oakland Station and upcoming events.Date: 03/31/05 19:25 SP Oakland Station and upcoming events. Author: santa-fe-steam A major motion picture will be shooting scenes during April at the 16th St. SP Oakland depot.
There will be an open casting call for extras this Saturday, April 2nd from 11 AM to 3 PM. They are looking for people between the ages of 18-40 for paid multi-day roles as background actors around the depot. If anyone is interested in getting paid to spend time in and around the depot bring two forms of identification and a photo to the West Oakland Senior Center on April 2nd. Beau Bonneau Castings will be on site to audition local talent. No experience necessary. Quite a large number of people needed to simulate a busy transportation scene. Senior Center, 1724 Adeline, Saturday, 11-3. Two weeks ago the City of Oakland Planning Comm. approved the Central Station development plan. Now to the Oakland City Council. A review of the council indicates almost a 50-50 split towards going forward with the plans. The council has scheduled a April 19th hearing for consideration of granting approval to the site to proceed with the restoration of the depot plus improvements to surrounding land. The project needs support on this date to convince the council that this will be a viable project for the city. The same support as that at the earlier planning commission meeting is needed at this meeting. All that is required is to sway one or two councilmen that the benefits far outweigh the negatives. Plan to attend if possible to lend support. Approval at this level puts the project back in the hands of the developer to finalize plans to the city. Oakland City Council Public Hearing Oakland City Hall 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza Room 1 April 19, 6 PM. I'll post the April 19th meeting again two days before the event date to remind anyone that might be able to lend their voice to affirm our desire to save this historical building. Walt . |
