A 4-engine, 78 car UP MOW train came EB through Davis, CA tonight around 10:30PM.

Consist:
* UP 3844 on the point + 3 other engines and 78 cars, including
* 15 loaded flats with school busses, highrailers, etc.
* 30 loaded flats and gons with track work equipment--every device known to man that has any
relevance to trackwork. 2 or three of some things. Imagine those little 5-unit trackswork MOW gangs, but about 10 of them all at once, loaded on flats and in gons. One of the larger beasts took up an entire flatcar, called "CATS 0402" or "CATS 0503" or some such.
* 10 MOW boxcars.
* The "Blue Mtn Cafe" cafe car, a few tanks
* 30 gondolas and flats, some empty, some with more MOW vehicles.

I noticed that the flats and gons were in great shape--few dents and no grafitti, there's at least two speed-lettered D&RGW gons, and an MKT gon (didn't notice a logo). And there were some really ancient looknig green flats that were only about 40' long.

Would be fun to have a good photo of each car on this train. 4 engines, too. EB @ Davis, 10:30PM.
Anyone know where it's going?--How about a trace of UP 904704, the Blue Mtn Cafe?

Heads up points north, east, or south of Roseville...

I also liked the old school MP boxcars and various bunk cars. Trace shows a destination of "Edison, CA" on the 12th.

Sounds like some big doings on the hill?

They sure picked a strange time of year...

Today they are doing a hung tie replacement project on the Niles Sub in the Jack London area on the two track. This could be a possible destination.

Not if that train is headed east on the Cal P Line!

Ted, I managed to get a photo of most of the cars on the MOW train that ran South a week or so ago. Here they are. It is missing about 15 cars, mostly flats and maybe a couple other cars, nothing important.
