From KCS notes at yahoo.com

Tom Stolte

KCS 4000 and 4005 shipping from London should be in Port Huron, MI, tonight
on the CN. If all goes well, these two units should be in East St. Louis for
interchange to KCS on December 26th.

Are you sure? Earlier ones were shipped unpainted CP to Vancouver then BNSF to CEECO Tacoma for painting.

here is a few more shots from London of the 2 units. they were supposedly lined up on CN 397 to head west. Normally units that are at CN in London, will go on 397 if they are going to Chicago or west, if they are going to lets say CSX or NS, they would go on 387 to Flat Rock, Michigan, or 397 to Chicago.

Ron,

There are five paint shops (including EMD's at London) painting KCS units, so this order is scattered to the wind when it leaves London. The note about the two above going to East St. Louis is true.

Yes. They are SD70ACEs Schmo. Does anyone know if they have ordered more of these, or the competing GE ES44AC? They will need more power now that TFM has been merged with KCS.

Rumor has it that KCS has an option for 30 more SD70ACes if they want 'em. KCS has indeed been power-hungry of late, leasing several MRL units as well as now some ex-UP SD90MAC-H II's that were returned off lease (now stenciled EMLX).

One thing to remember though is that the newly merged system can draw on its pool of locomotives in Mexico to help with demand in the U.S. I've noticed a large number of the TFM SD70MACs have been making tours of duty north of the border lately, for example. Of course, demand is pretty strong down there too!

Can the TFM units be used in the lead in the US, or do they have to be trailing units north of the border? The reason I ask is that I would thing that most of the dials and gauges in a TFM unit read in metric measurements.

I've been told that you're correct about the metric measurements being used on the older power, but yet I see TFM power (both old ex-NdeM units and the new MAC's and AC44's) leading all the time. It either isn't an issue, or TFM retrofitted the older units with dual-measurement systems.

I know TFM adopted AAR standards when it was created (including things like bulletproof glass, etc.) specifically so that its equipment could be used anywhere in the North American standard gauge network. I believe the other major Mexican systems adopted US standards as well, but may have moved more slowly to do so (thus there are far fewer Ferromex units roaming the US).

I believe that the AC4400CWs and SD70MACs readouts can be changed with a few keystrokes as far as the VDT readouts.
