Three shots of the C&NW unit in downtown Chicago.

That is a great set of photos of a great paint scheme. Too bad the CNW didn't take over the UP instead of the other way around.

Thanks for the photos. Not too impressive to me. I was hoping something more like the GP7`s, and GP9`s came from EMD.

Very nice shots... I don't know though, maybe it will grow on me.

That paint scheme is much more "at home" than the other heritage units. Not too bad at all! At least they kept the CNW logos on it. The up 1996 locomotive number has recently been removed from the GP-38-2L that it was on to find it's new home on the ACe.

Well, that's not bad. It almost looks like a C&NW unit. Certainly better than the previous abominations.

Considering CNW pretty much had the same paint job since diesel engines came out, they really didn't have a whole lot of opportunity to get to crazy with this paint job. It doesn't look to bad, and at least they didn't try a two tone yellow job using Zito Yellow..

I like it. I had nightmares that it would be a lot worse. Maybe it looks as nice as it does because the boyz up at Horicon gave it a little extra TLC.

The best of the bunch so far. Kinda looks like what the Northwestern may have migrated to had they stayed around .......

Agreed. Hopefully (but doubtfully) the SP version will follow suit and have a semi-resemblance of what the SP should look like.

I agree, not too bad. Kinda liked the Katy one too, although I have to admit the Katy was not a railroad close to my heart; Katy fans probably think differently. So lets have some fun with this and rank the paint schemes so far, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best). My 2 cents:

UP 1982 / MP: 5. Pretty neutral on this one; I can live with it.
UP 1983 / WP: 2. Yuck. Should have just picked one former scheme and stuck to it.
UP 1988 / MKT: 6. Kinda catches the eye.
UP 1989 / DRGW: 4. Maybe it will grow on me.
UP 1995 / C&NW: 8. The best of the bunch so far.

Anxiously waiting for the SP one...

Bill

Hands down the best so far. The DRGW would have been if the gold had continued all the way around.
The CNW design flows together. If only the CNW itself could have used this scheme.

Looks pretty cool to me, can't wait to see what the SP one will look like!

This is probably the most likely "real" paint scheme they've done yet. In other words, If CNW were still around today, they might have actually painted locos like this.

I agree, it's a scheme that isn't very representing of the CNW's past, it's rather basic. But for a CNW there around today, it might be a route they'd taken with new power, and a new paint scheme.

Sorry if I am covering old ground here ,but what is the reasoning behind the offset lights on the rear end.Are all the UP ACe,s like this.
Regards,Daryl kay.
A second look would indeed indicate that I am "seeing things".Geez ,and I havent been drinking either.<G>

I think you're having an optical delusion.

The headlight assembly is mounted on a flat piece that's directly above the centerline of the locomotive. There's another angled piece that doesn't show in the photo, to the right of the flat piece, that's exactly the same as the one on the left that has the unit number on it.

Offset lights? I'm not seeing anything that is offset.

Nice shots. I think i have a new favorite Heritage unit! Beautiful job. Interesting how they used "Chicago Northwestern System" on the side logo and "Employee Owned" on the front.

P.S.- Thank you U.P. and W&S.

i think he probably means the sand fillers. i hanvt noticed these on other ACe models till recently.

its an ok paintjob. if the banners are any clue, the SP unit will be in daylight colors with some modern designs in them...
