UP 1995 CNW Heritage
Author: bnsfjth

Here is my short but sweet chase of the CNW Heritage Unit and the 2 remaining unpatched CNW's, 8646 and 8701 on MPRCB-16. They are making good time across Illinois and Iowa, possibly trying to outrun all the foam in their path; there was a lot of it. :-) They were just moving a little too quickly for me to attempt a longer chase.

1 - Stanwood, IA

2 - Pacing along Hwy 30 near Mechanicsville, IA

3 - Rounding famous Bertram Curve at Bertram, IA

Enjoy,
-Justin

Damn those are nice shots. Kind of neat to see the 2 unpatched units hanging out with the not so bad looking heritage unit. Looks like you had ideal conditions for your short chase. I don't think they will be able to do likewise for any of the other heritage units, except maybe SP...maybe.

Excellent shots. That is one fine looking unit. Nice touch running it with the unpatched Dash-9's.

Good job UP.

Super cool shots of the lash up. Good to see un-patched CNW units with the new SD70ACe. Very good catch. I do like Union Pacific's version of the Chicago & North Western paint scheme. I think it's kind of classy.

Nice series Justin. The 3 of them go together pretty well.

Many of us hope to see a combo of UP 1989 and D&RGW 5371 before it's too late.

Those GE's are emitting fairly dirty emissions!

Very nice shots indeed of a surperb looking engine. This paint job and design could very well be what the C&NW image would have become had it survived. I look at this unit as the C&NW of the 21st century! Nice C&NW lash-up with the best looking heritage engine yet on the point! Can the SP unit possibly top it? Stay tuned next month for the answer. Regardless, thanks to the design team for doing such a wonderful job of carrying the C&NW into the next century. What a fantastic job of blending color and design into perfection!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yes, the CNW's were showing they were working with some smoke out the stacks.

Justin where were you at Stanwood? I was at the soon to be crossovers, then got them west of Mickeyville and at the CR Bridge. Only about 5 of us there at the west end. I think most folks went to Bertram.

With the all the cars, you'd thought 844 or 3985 was in Iowa.

I wasn't expecting that number of people out either. I was at the first crossing on the west side of town. Wanna say it is Jackson Road. There were a couple vehicles that came down there, but everyone ended up leaving again except Scott, who ended up down there too. There were about 6 or 7 people up on the Hwy 13 overpass at Bertram. I was the only one brave enough to wade through the weeds below the bridge (though not brave enough to stand on a 65mph highway bridge with no shoulders...lol). I spent a few minutes down there stomping down weeds so I could get a shot. Fun times!

The UP 1995 has the face of a Crandall unit from the cab to the front. Still looks good.
