I can't find a photo of one from the 01140-01189 series, but I did find a photo online of 01137. It does have a bit of resemblence to the photo at the bottom of this page:

If you have a copy of "Rio Grande in Color, Volume 1: Colorado", there's a good shot of 01173 at Pueblo on page 56. It looks similar, but yet different - no diagonal brace from the cupola to the carbody, stack placement looks different, and your cupola windows have a strange brace between them that I don't think exists on 73. Could just be a difference between cars and how they were modified as they aged, or could indicate this isn't of the right design at all.

I'm relatively sure this caboose was not always painted with Rio Grande insignia and numbers. I remember seeing it up there perhaps 20 years ago, it's been there for a while. I think it didn't have any numbers or lettering on it for some time.

While on the topic of cabooses hidden in Colorado, is the former Rock Island wood caboose still sitting off the Midland Expressway in Colorado Springs? It was on the grounds of what appeared to be a trash hauler. Anyone got a pic or two? Is it sitting on original trackage?

According to Roger Kirkpatrick's Captive Caboose list for Colorado, this is in fact DRGW 01157. He lists it in masonville however:

Masonville CO D&RGW 01157 wood, cupola, no trucks, Cabin, Buckhorn Road (Co 27 to Co 44H), 15 miles nw of town

Thanks CCT24, I didn't have a copy of the list.

Masonville is the closest "town" (Don't blink or you'll miss it)
