Trespasser struck, MP 8.7 near Berkeley
Author: Cal-P

Amtrak train 711 just struck a trespasser westbound on the UP Martinez sub. west of Stege MP 8.7.
I expect this will close the line for a couple of hours.
(mainline between Oakland and Sacramento).
My thoughts go out to the train crew. Cal-P

Condolences to the crew, and being so close to just about being done with their run too, it's the sh*ts when that happens so close to home. Or, in some cases so far away if it happens right outside of Bakersfield. Since the train doesn't stop at Berkely, one must wonder if it was a person thinking the train stopped there and walked out into the foul, or was a suicide type incident. I'm sure we'll soon find out on the news.

Doubt this was a would-be passenger... Stege (pronounced: "Steege") is between Richmond and Albany Hill, several miles geographic north of the station at Berkeley.

Just had a call @1200 hrs. from a fellow railfan that another Amtrak/trespasser strike occurred.
This one in Stockton near Lincoln St.
Maybe on the BNSF Stockton Sub. Cal-P

Duh, I missed that part, I was thinking the station itself when I seen the title "near Berkeley". Hey Brian, send me a PM, got something for you I need to send your way, need your snail mail address.

Or as some would call it, Stooge! :)

Lots of people walking along the r/w near Stege. Some even live along there, I'd guess. No surprise when somebody gets hit.

Yes, there are a LOT of homeless camps along the Cal-P in Western Contra Costa County. A terrible problem with terrible consequences.

When I working out of Oakland, the only time I'd go up there alone was early AM while everyone was still asleep. If you were there after 1100 you'd meet some "interesting" people. One of the areas where you can pick up spent 9mm cases on a playground.
