> #1-2 73 Clovis 1966 Carlsbad-Clovis train The doodlebug must have been sick that day. Believe that's 74L rather than 73. I only know of two Santa Fe PA-1's that got Farr-type grills. The 60L (later DH-17) lost its curved trim piece behind the cab in the process, but 74L kept it. A number of PB-1's also got Farr grills. Nice to see some 60's era passenger action on the "freight main." Thanks! I wonder who they held the SF Chief for there at Sais. Date: 01/11/07 16:04 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: SP6190 Sorry. Finger hit the wrong key. I have made the correction.
And here is the 60L at Redondo Jct roundhouse. Thanks Date: 01/11/07 18:26 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: qnyla Wow, thank you VERY much for posting this great material!
MORE! Date: 01/11/07 19:07 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: czuleget Nice shots I did notice the tofc mail boxes on the train I have not seen this in the past. Maybe, because I grew up around the SP. Thanks for sharing.
Date: 01/11/07 20:33 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: millerdc The non-double decker equipment probably is from the California Special which was a Dallas - Clovis and Houston - Clovis trained that combined with the SF Chief until Barstow and then was switched out for LA.
Date: 01/11/07 21:43 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: pecosvalleychief Thanks so much John for the shots of my namesake train, the "pecosvalleychief". Only the Santa Fe could have such a classy consist on a branchline feeder train. I've only seen a few pics of that little consist over the years. Too bad I never got to see it.
Allen Date: 01/12/07 03:35 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: SP6190 When Bernard caught it back in 66 it was supposed to have an "E" unit on the train. When they got there, it was running with a "PA". Bummer.

Bummer. LOL. Seems pretty funny now, doesn't it? For those readers wondering about this, Santa Fe's Es were of great interest to us "West Coasties," and the Carlsbad train typically ran with one after they bumped the M.160 and M.190 off the assignment. So finding the train running with a PA instead was quite a disappointment. After all, we were up to our ears with PAs out here! What a difference 40 years makes. It did indeed have an E8M when I rode it in April 1967, so nee-ner nee-ner! Date: 01/12/07 11:15 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: SP6190 And where are the pictures?
Date: 01/12/07 11:33 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: ntharalson Thanks for sharing the photos. While not a PA fan, I did find them enjoyable.
Howver, they also bring up a question. In the Sais shots, while the headlight is working, the Mars Light, yes, it is a Mars Signal Light, is not. I have noticed this often in films and shots taken in the mid to late 60's. Does anyone know why this seemed to be a fairly common sight? The Mars light not on, I mean. When did that happen? Books by McCall and McMillan both claim M.160 and M.190 held down Tr.25 and 26 (barring mechanical failures) until the Clovis-Carlsbad service was abandoned in August 1967. On the other hand, I can't find any photos of the cars actually running after about 1965. Both were formally retired July 1968. > It did indeed have an E8M when I rode it in April > 1967, so nee-ner nee-ner! In the 60's, E8m 80L was reportedly usually assigned to Tr.93 and 94 between Amarillo and Lubbock via Plainview prior to those trains coming off in 1965. Did 80L find its way over to Clovis after that, or was it a different E? No. There was no ATS between Mulvane, KS and Dalies, NM. 79 mph railroad. Bob Date: 01/12/07 17:34 Re: New Mexico PA's, Santa Fe Type Author: bnsfbob ntharalson Wrote:
