UP 1989 on BNSF?
Author: KoloradoKid

UP delivered the 1989 to the BNSF at 1806 on 2-5-07. Interesting. Anyone know why?

Close! Actually, Union Station tracks are owned by RTD/DUT. However, in order for the Ski Train and/or Amtrak to get from the Moffat to the station, they move over to BNSF tracks at Prospect Jct. From there they cross at the diamond at 23rd Street (BNSF) before entering DUT. So, I'm sure the AEI scanner at Prospect Jct reads this as an interchange to BNSF. The interchange was recorded on Sunday evening at 6:05pm, right when the Ski Train was passing Prospect.

Since that is what the trace is still indicating, I would assume that 1989 is still sitting on the Ski Train at Union Station. Perhaps SKTX 289 won't be ready for the trip next weekend and 1989 will make an encore appearance?

I can confirm that, as of 10:00 AM this morning that UP 1989 is still on the point of the Ski Train at DUT. New job begins tomorrow, directly across the street from there, so I will be able to see if, and when, 1989 is pulled off.

Mind you, I wouldn't yell if, say, UP 1989 lead a Valmont Coal train up the Front Range Sub...

UP 1989 was pulled off of the Ski Train sometime between 1pm and 5pm Tuesday 2/6. I was by there at 5pm and it was gone. At 1pm it was there but also the engine room doors on the SKTX 242 were open like it was being checked or serviced. Is this a normal routine done each week at DUT? The SKTX 283 did not have any of its doors open and the SKTX 289 was still not back on the train. Might see the 1989 again this weekend but there has not been any official word. I suppose if the 1989 is back on the Ski Train Thursday or Thursday night we'll know.

As a follow-up to RioGrandeFan, UP 1989 has been placed on the MNYPU-06 running on the Joint Line between North Yard and Pueblo tonight. That'll mean it will (most likely) come north tomorrow night, putting it in Denver on Thursday. I guess that is when we will get the definitive answer. At this point thought, I'm not going to hold my breath. I'll bet we'll see 289 back on the train tomorrow or Thursday.....

I almost hope it doesn't go skiing again because it makes all of our efforts and photos much more worth it from this weekend. We never get sick of our 1989 becuase we get it in little doses, kind of fun that way.
