What became of them?

What ever became of the EMD SD70M demos.
They were quite common on the I-5 corridor a few years ago. Heres EMD 7019 west at the east switch of Andesite.

CSX now owns all of them. EMD/LLPX traded them to CSX for a bunch of GP38s/GP40s/GP15s and switch engines a couple years ago.

I think they use them in phosphate service in Florida.

They were actually lease units, not demos. SP had them on long term lease from EMD, UP decided to send them back when the lease expired. Then EMD sold/traded them to CSX as SP9794 has explained.

About half have been repainted. They do mostly stay in Florida but do wander at times.

P.S. their CSX numbers are 4675-4699
