I think it was taken on Tehachapi pass.

Actually, the location of that San Joaquin Daylight photo looks like the Saugus Line
around Vincent Hill, which is a little bit compass south-southwest of Palmdale. That
curve and those hills look right for the area...could be mistaken, though.

Agree with Slwar the location is between Palmdale and Vincent.

Photg probably looking at first curve of the horseshoe with Pearblossum Highway behind him.

Your attachment is labeled GS3. I think that these engines are MT3 4-8-2s. Could be wrong.

Still a most excellent picture, though.

According to "The 4300 4-8-2's" by Robert Church, five MT-4's were painted in Daylight colors. A pair of these beautys used to pull 51 from LA to Bakersfield every morning. They would cut off in BFL and return that evening on 52. Watching them pass the Oak Creek Crossing in Mojave in the morning westbound up the hill was like watching the space shuttle lift-off! The earth defintely moved!
