Tankers??? Do they mean containers?

I'm not 100% sure but I think its a BNSF train (Clovis to Oakland Stacks/Intermodel) thats on the ground...I'll see what I can find out.

UP symbol for the derailed BNSF train is 3JCLOA...

BNSF steel coil train (UP symbol UEAPIJ) is stopped (stuck) at Walong.

Last hit on the T-Car was about 1:52pm

No info on the CHP site, nothing on Bakersfield TV web news pages

Per BNSF the derailed train is the S-CLOOIG3-14A...

The following UP trains are being tied down between Mojave and West Colton: MWCRVX at Ansel, the
MWCRV at Denis and the IDIOAX at Hiland.

No doubt there will be several UP trains rerouted to the coast line again...

Well if this area was easily accessed I wouild head up there, but I believe the only way to get to it is following the tracks or going through the ranch at hart flat.

I'm in a cafe with my laptop so I don't have my maps with me. IIRC, there is an off-ramp at Harts Flat? I'm trying to zoom in on the site but Harts Flat is not in the topo database.

The derailment is in one of the worst possible locations for access: between Rowen and Cliff...

I agree with the above post. The longitude value, if correct, puts it east of Cliff. The latitude value is incorrect.

Here is a link to a Topozone map of the approximate area. Cut and paste the full link.

The BNSF steel coil train has been moved down to Woodford from Walong. Power might be used to pull the rear portion of the stack train back to Rowen.

This derailment is not in or around hart flat area as it has been reported. It is located approx 1 mile east of Bealville road xing. From the air it looked like it was between tunnels 3 and tunnels 5 and some of it was located at the south portal of tunnel 5. I was unable to confirm if it was an BNSF or UP. At this point I hope no one was injured information is very shacky at best. No one has reported what time the derailment took place. Channel 29 news a CBS station in Bakersfield had a helicopter over head they did not show much. Thats all for now.

Hart's Flat - Location Please??
Author: daniel3197

Just wondering where is the town of Harts Flat in the Tehachapi Mountains???
I looked all around the Cliff and Rowen areas and see NO mention of it on the Topozone maps.
Thank you in advance for any kind help.

By the way when, I first saw this thread my mind thought of Dutch Flat on the Donner Pass west slope.
I have extensively studied maps of the Tehachapi Mountains and have never seen any place named Hats Flat in the area.
Thank you again in advance for help!

---- Daniel

Hart Flat is basically an exit of Highway 58 that leads to a Ranch entrance. If there was ever a town there I do not have a clue. If this wreck occurred between tunnels 5 and 3 as a previous poster reported than there is a good chance it is visible from 58 and easily accessible to clean up crews from the road x-ing at Bealville.

Don't know about that John. My info is the train never went by the north switch at Cliff (but was lined through by the DS). I'll check and see if the train ever went by the south switch at Cliff...I was told, before, that the answer was no. I'll double check to make sure the info I received is correct.

It was a BNSF train.
