cabcar: In your first picture, they were working on the switch, not for the track project, but because the MSCWC went on the ground there early this morning. That's what gummed up the works today and the Alhambra sub was a parking lot, but what else is new?

I was wondering why the Westbounds were coming non-stop for hours. And to make matters worse, the DS had to flag every train by the signal at CP SP491 and CP SP535-Pepper. That was going on all day, and I think it still is.

It was a good day for train watching though. :D

I would guess that the new main track planned for the area would follow the ballon track and then pass under the Mojave Sub just like the bypass track already does. It would allow thru-trains to pass thru while a slow moving manifest pulls out of the yard and heads up the Mojave Subdivision. Since the curve on the existing bypass track is somewhat sharp, the new earth-moving would allow for a slightly less sharp curve.

What is UP going to do about the bridge situation near the 10 freeway? I don't think there's room for two tracks.

Hell I dunno either, I'm guessing a track sorta-straightening.
I'm busy watching tunnels trying to collapse.
