Skykomish 1982

Just scanning some old negatives and came on this one I took back in 1982. Is the old electric powerhouse structure that was used during GN's days still standing? It can be seen in the left background behind some classic helper power. As far as that goes how about the old heavyweight cars on the right? I know that helpers are no longer put on here but it was sure an interesting operation.

Powerhouse was torn down some time ago.

Great photo. Nice view of the old BN from when I was a kid. I remember seeing those F45s operate.

The powerhouse is gone, but the classic GN
depot is still standing.

The deep red color means those were BN
maintenance of way cars at the time. Don't
know if BNSF still has any like that or not.
The Santa Fe side of BNSF retired nearly all of
its heavyweight MW cars by the end of the 80's.

Which Reminds Me..

of probably my all - time favorite weathercast. It was for flash flood warnings on the Skykomish, Snohomish, Stillaguamish, and Skookumchuck Rivers in western Washington. This transplanted midwesterner was wondering, "What kind of place is this?"

P.S. What do I get if I spelled all those right from memory?

Removed during the summer of 1993. Took it down with a wrecking ball. The crew said they'd have it down in a day, and three days later, they were right.

Is the Meadow Lark Inn still in business?
