A Patriotic Celebration for the 4th
Author: HomerBedloe

Let me be the first to wish all a Happy 4th of July (its only 30 minutes away here in Texas!). I'll start the parade with a bicentennial unit from WP. Let's see those Red, White and Blue locos from 1976 to celebrate our heritage!

MKT's BiCent #200

Second only to catching the ICG's #1776 leaving Markum Yard just as I drove up, was catching the Katy's one and only BiCent unit #200, on a 1977 return trip from MS, I stopped in the Parson's, KS, yard, checked around, then, leaving town I crossed the tracks and saw a headlight coming, and, this is what it was. After the southbound train arrived, this is a shot of power heading to the shops.

Sorry for eating the bandwidth - still experimenting with the scanner - this one is better. 4-4-1976, St.Louis riverfront right after spotting the AFT4449 during its tour.

Here's Conrail's GG1 #4800, "Old Rivets", the prototype, painted for the Bicentennial; photographed on September 9, 1976, in Harrisburg, PA.

Thanks for bringing out the 1976 loco pic. We just painted our van in the SP bicentinental paint scheme - don't have a pic to post yet. Happy Independence Day!!!!
