NS Mearsk Sealand SD40-2
Author: foamer

Well, it finally made it to LA!

Seen here inside Hobart Yard, looked great.

Arrived just after 8am, and sat around inside Hobart til about 2pm, usually engines make their way to Commerce faster.

I'll post some pix here, but I am sure Dash will be able to provide us with some better quality ones, I'll have to wait to get my prints back.

BTW- as an extra bonus, caught this TFM SD40-2, and one of a kind (on BNSF), Motive Power Industries SD45? also in LA!

Well the computer shows that the NS 3329 has been assigned to the P LACCHI 04A. I wonder if it will truely leave and make it back?

I hope so. Might actually stand a chance of getting a picture of it! Since I was screwed on the Needles Sub yesterday, and screwed at Commerce today. Ah well.

As of 9:00 pm, it no longer shows assigned to the P LACCHI, I wonder if someone at Mearsk called BNSF.

Here is power for that train:

Train P LACCHI2 04A Departed LOSANGELES CA 08/04/02 2115 0 hr 15 min Ahead
Lds 66 Mty 0 Tons 5338 Feet 6164

1 BNSF 4648
2 BNSF 5283
3 ATSF 837
4 MPEX 9532

Hope it sticks around for awhile.

Re: reassigned NS Unit

I wonder if you are right about someone locally stopping the unit from leaving on the train, because it still shows it assigned to the train. It shows assigned once 0801-04 and reassigned again at at 1730-04. Now there are no longer any power managers at night in Fort Worth so they probably made a local decision.

I understand that the NS-Mearsk paint job was done at the Altoona,PA NS facility. I still like the original SF-Mearsk GP60M of bygone years.

New information on 6976:

ETA Barstow 8/8 6:25 AM - H-MEMBAR1
ETD Barstow 8/8 5:00 PM - M-BARLAC1
ETA Hobart 8/8 11:00 PM

The unit is painted in a warbonnet scheme with a light blue warbonnet trimmed with white and black stripes. The pilot is light blue and the rest of the unit is silver including the trucks and fuel tank. There is a light blue Maersk logo and "Maersk Sealand" in black on the side, 6976 and BNSF in white outlined with black on the cab side, and the Maersk logo on the front. The paint scheme is very similar to that used on GP60M 146 in 1990.

Also the headlight was moved back to between the numberboards.
