EXTRA: Commerce plagued by interesting locomotives!
Author: Dash

A sudden plague of interesting locomotives filled Commerce, California today. Although it is unknown what caused the plague, it is clear what effects it brought : mass hystaria and excitement from the few foamers present. "It's crazy!" remarked an aonymous foamer. Will this madness ever end? As long as locomotives like NS 3329, CANX 7103, MPEX 9532, TFM 1407, BNSF7890, and many others remain, the answer is unvariably, "No."

What kind of unit is that CANX7103? To me it looks like an Alco, but surely there's no way...

It is a remote controlled (Beltpack) unit. It was in use at barstow, for a few months, now in use here in LA.

Appears to be a switcher cab, some sort of geep body (shortend), on a SW1500 frame. Ex CN.

Pix from Barstow, last month.

These things are nicknamed "Sweeps" (SWitcher/gEEP).
They were built from EMD end-cab switchers, to
which GP9-style long hoods were added.
