Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF Seattle, WA construction updateDate: 06/12/08 20:24 BNSF Seattle, WA construction update Author: markgillings There have been big changes north of Lander Street. The yard trackage has been removed to make room for the new ladder.
1) The rest of the Lander Main has been built and the connection made behind me. At left, panels to be removed are still being cut. The Lander Main will be come alive June 16 with speed increases the 17th. South of Royal Brougham, passenger will be 50 MPH with freight at 35(?). 2) The last turnout that remained of the hand-thrown Lander Crossovers is about to be hauled away. At right is one of the Main 1 turnouts that will be reused. 3) Just two minutes later, the 8th Spring Creek Mine to Robert's Bank coal train runs through. 5) A little closer. The dwarf signal on the left will govern southward movement into Lander Street from the yard and the right signal will do the same from the Lander Main. 6) Then today, the rest of the dirt was cleared out and a couple more turnout panels were placed. Next week, we can start hooking it all up. Date: 06/12/08 20:42 Re: BNSF Seattle, WA construction update Author: RAS Looking good, Mark! It's cool to see this new trackage in service.

TCS - as always, like the excellent reporting and pics Date: 06/13/08 14:47 Re: BNSF Seattle, WA construction update Author: ProAmtrak 50 for passenger and 35 for freight, sounds like a Cajon Pass type scenario to me!

What is the benefit the of new mainline route south of King Street? Fewer crossings? Casey Date: 06/14/08 15:15 Re: BNSF Seattle, WA construction update Author: bnsftrucker CyberFoamer Wrote:

The new route allows Amtrak and Sounder to do their switching, washing, and it allows Amtrak to go down the lander all the way to the wye for a spin without occupying and tying up the mains. |
