That's the curve at Nicklin that used to be a siding that held 116 40' cars. The siding was taken out when the west side of Beaumont was converted to multiple main track between Beaumont and Ordway. Nice photos, by the way. I just can't get use to houses being up ther on the side of the hill. Very strange.

Those same houses will soon be filled by NIMBYs wanting the UP to shut down overnight or move it's tracks !

So now another question, I know those units are right out of the box and all, but isn't that gray a little light ?

A few trips up north for some tunnel time action and that gray will darken right up.

No that Grey is exactly as it appears when they are spanking new . Under various lighting conditions that i have shot this class they all look the same.

UP units, when brand spankin' new like that, really look great. Too bad UP doesn't own functioning wash racks anywhere. The dirty yellow with browned-out (dirty) gray looks lame at best and pathetic at worst (and utterly wrong with dirty flags). Too bad. Given how long the units sit at East Yard, Dolores, and West Colton here in the LA Basin between trips, there is more than enough time for washing. I am sure that holds true throughout the system. There just isn't the will.

Don't fret too much, they haven't built a single unit on any of the three jobs I did up there last year.
There'sd even bare earth down at Crystal Cove and we graded that 6 years ago.

Weird, just saw the UP8639 and UP8650 here in Oakland tonight. Thy trailed in consist from Roseville to Oakland on the MRVOA last night and trailed out on the IOAG2-21 late tonight! Hmmmm...
