Spent last week up in Iowa and Minnesota to mainly focus on coevering as much of the Iowa Chicago & Eastern system as we could before the CP Rail purchase which occured on October 30th 2008. The trip was a sucess but there were a few days where the train counts were extremly low like four or five moves a day. I was fortunate to shoot a lot of DM&E in northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota in the late 80's and caught the IC&E on several occasions on trips to the midwest. They were both first class operations that will be greatly missed.

The IC&E 6400-series SD40-2s came from a variety of ancestries. They were rebuilt and long-term leased to IC&E by one of the leasing companies, I believe. There's probably an on-line roster somewhere where all the frame-number-checkers documented this stuff in detail.... ....in fact, when I checked this one http://www.illinirail.com/icerail/detailedroster.htm I learned that most of the 6400s are from the UP family (including MP, CNW and MKT) but a four are ex-British Columbia Railway, including one of those that was nee-Oneida & Western.
