A couple Yolo Shortline negatives from the good days of both SP steam and SP geeps:

1. YSL GP9 #131 shows its SP heritage via the standard light package in Woodland, California in October of 1997. It was always fun to see the 131 head down the Yolo right of way in this fashion.

2. Ex-SP 0-6-0 #1233 shows its small but elegant lines on the wooden causeway between Woodland and West Sacramento in October of 1997.

The GP 9 131 now has the Gyro lights removed and ditch light installed. I loved the Gyro, especially when there was slight fog. Looked GREAT from a distance coming down the rail....The 131 is located in Woodland, and also West Sacramento Port from time to time. The 131 was the most reliable locomotive they have. Also the best sounding 567 as well.

The 1233 WAS Sweet !! She ran good and fired well. We had a good time with her when she was running. Unfortunately the 1233 is stuffed and mounted back at the SP depot in Woodland NEVER to run again.... Just a few people can ruin it for so many others to enjoy....(sigh)

It's too bad a certain museum group thought that the gyro lights would be better in their collection than on an operating locomotive. The 131 has never been the same since. And as an aside, maybe the 131 sounded better but I'd take the 132 any day of the week.

Thanks for the steamer pic Sam. I now have some ideas for my 1" scale 0-6-0.

Now I'm curious--why is the 1233 out of service (judging from the report, permanently) and what did the unnamed "few" do to cause this situation? I remember when it was at the Yolo County Fairgrounds and the crew would pressurize the boiler with an air compressor so the whistle could be sounded, then being pleased to see reports of it running on the ex-Sacramento Northern/Northern Electric branch.

Not running because of various reasons. Mainly --- the (Hysterical) museum didn't get along with the owners of the railroad and always complained about the lease, maintenance etc on the thing even though not one member of the museum turned 1 wrench on the thing (ever) ! In the end the lease didn't get renewed and the person who did the work on the thing and spent many hours working on it never got paid ! So now as it sits at the Depot, I suspect that nothing will ever get done because no one knows anything about it and is not willing to do any thing to make it run. So there she sits forever rusting away ! Such a shame
