I'm at work and don't have access to all of my Burlington Route Historical Society stuff, but here is what I remember. There were 8 (I think) boxcars repainted gold to celebrate the Burlington being awarded a Railway Progress Institute award in 1966 or so...the cars are class XM-32 built by the Q at Havelock shops. More details tonight when I get home, Regards & Everywhere West, Burlington John Date: 12/16/02 20:41 Re: Burlington RPI Boxcars Author: BurlingtonJohn Here is the info straight from the Burlington Bulletin #7, publication of the Burlington Route Historical Society. Check the society's web site for ordering information:
http://www.burlingtonroute.com To commemorate winning the Railway Progress Institute's Golden Freight Car award for 1966, the Burlington painted one day's output (eight cars) of overhauled XM-32 box cars gold with black lettering in December 1966 at the Burlington's freight car shop in Havelock, Nebraska. The award was for the most effective promotion of railroad freight traffic in America. Regards & Everywhere West, Burlington John |
