Black Mesa & Lake Powell E60 on the Move
Author: jmw

Black Mesa & Lake Powell E60C #6001 will be trucked from Page, AZ and delivered to the Arizona State Railroad Museum folks in Williams, AZ this week.

Below is some info on the move cut and pasted from an e-mail message I received:

Sunday-Monday (15-16 Aug), move equipment to Page.
Tuesday-Wednesday(17-18 Aug), load-Travel
Thursday (19 Aug), travel to and arrival in Williams and set up for unload on Friday 20 Aug or Saturday (21 Aug).

"The move on Thursday will be down through the reservation as ADOT will not allow this behemoth (304,000 pounds stripped weight) on the bridges at Cameron. Part of the move will be on Old Route 66 from Parks to Garland Prairie. This is due to the height of 17' which cannot make it under a couple of the overpasses on I-40. Hopefully it will make the trip in one day but that is not guaranteed."

I won't be out there to see any of this so hopefully some one on TO can document the move.

89 South out of page is pretty steep, I have seen large houseboats from Lake Powell moved this way. Any large objects out of Page move early in the morning to avoid the tourist traffic. I would think a more preferable route would bee to load it at the mine and take the road via Tuba City or 191 south through Chinle.

So is the Williams museum the same group that is in Chandler?

To answer the question as to how those engines got there (and how the railway was constructed), feel free to go to my website http://www.shownontheweb.com/RR/html/bm___lp_1972_-_1974.html for a short first hand experience at the Flagstaff Railhead starting in 1972.
