Pacing a Train on Google Maps
Author: warrenpweiss

Just by chance, I happened to be using Google's "Street View" on hwy 65 just north of Roseville, CA, and saw a string of freight cards. I followed it and it appeared to be headed southbound. Eventually I caught up with the locomotives. It was almost as fun as being there in person (didn't have to worry about crashing my car, but missed the sounds). Go to http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=39.007342,-121.419311&spn=0,0.004506&fb=1&gl=us&cid=0,0,15426271602688357799&z=18&layer=c&cbll=39.007341,-121.419311&panoid=_ACKE1CqPKnkfuVE9fdrYA&cbp=12,44.38,,0,13.07 , face Southwest, and have fun!

Keep going south on 65 using the street view and you will see the Rocklin Rocket as you near the town of Lincoln. Pretty cool.

Now that was pretty neat to see. Thanks for posting that.

You can do some pacing shots of a BNSF freight on Tehachapi on the two-lane road that parallells the tracks between Bena and Ilmon on StreetView too.
