844 in the Rain!
Author: santafe199

It rained! When it was done, it rained some more. It was just one of those days you were committed to and you just had to make the best of it. In short, young "mg8711" & I chased the whole Marysville, KS to Kansas City Union Station leg of the 844's latest excursion. And boy did we hit some rain. At one point between Rossville & Silver Lake, KS in poured so hard visibility was down to a few car lengths. But we persevered. Got a few shots. There might be a few interesting details in the captions...

1. UP Goodwill Ambassador 844 is awakening in Marysville, KS.

2. & 3. The 844 excursion passing under KS hwy 16 in Onaga.

4. The surprisingly people-free service stop in Topeka, KS.

5. & 6. Crossing Stranger Creek in Linwood, KS. TO member Jeff Carlson is at the bridge with a couple of other suspects. (Is that you on your knees, Pump?)

7. Approaching metro Kansas City at Edwardsville, KS.

8. Taking the high-line approach to Kansas City Union Station via Santa Fe Jct Interlocking, which is just ahead.

9. A few hardy souls brave the inclement weather to greet the 844 at Union Station.

That second image is just great, Lance. It just captures a mood that you would never get on a sunny day. And of course it's enhanced by the barn and the setiing. just wish they would have had wooden instead of concrete ties. Guess you can't have everything. Fantastic image!!

Excellent shots. It seems like the last several tours of the 844 did not include hauling passengers. What is the purpose of just running around the country? Don't get me wrong; I am glad they are running it.

That was Carlson on his knees at Linwood (so many forum inappropriate response possibilities I could make regarding that), but I went to Loring and got a pretty non contrasty shot through the mist.

Nice shots, Lance! I appreciate your sacrifice by going out and playing in the rain to get them.

That's funny, because I did too. My grandma used to say I didn't have sense enough to stay in out of the rain. I guess she was right.

Excellent Lance---the Topeka depot without any people around has got to be the most perfect.

I had not heard they added the Courage To Care logo on the nose of the UP 844.

Nice images, love to see them.
