Making Lemonade out of Lemons
Author: EMDX90

While enjoying a beautiful day up in Cajon Pass, searching for a spot to settle down, I spotted a UP Ballast train near Summit on one of the BNSF mains. Hoping it would stay on BNSF and crossover at Keenbrook instead of Silverwood, I ventured down the hill and settled on a spot just off of the 138 near CP Canyon. After setting up a great shot expecting to shoot it on BNSF trackage, to my dismay, there it was on UP trackage. I swiftly put my tripod in position, and tried to make the best out of what I had, and here are the results. Enjoy!

1. Drifting downgrade on UP's Palmdale cutoff, UP AC45CCTE 5399 paired up with 2 EMD SD70M's lead a Ballast train through the scenic Mormon Rocks in Cajon Pass.

Not Even A Lemon

I waited out there by the SNOWBUNNY bridge two Thursday mornings ago hoping for something to come along...and nothin'! No lemons and no snowbunnies. It's rarely that dead in the pass.

Most UP ballast trains head east at Rancho so usually take the cutoff
