Union Pacific 844 & SLRG #18
Author: jointlinerailfan

Hey Railfans this is the Joint Line Railfan.
As a surprise move by both Iowa Pacific and UP, the SLRG did bring east from Alamosa, former LS&I #18 for a meet with 844 in Walsenburg. The sinking sun and darkness made it a challenge to film and photograph, but we were able to pull off some pretty impressive shots. This one is just an example. Let me know if you want to see more!It sure was a history-making moment, as this was the first time both 844 and #18 were ever in Walsenburg, and this was the first time in well over 50 years that 2 steam engines were in Walsenburg at once (let alone 1 steam engine.) Hope you enjoy!

Nick,

Really cool! When did #18 arrive in Walsenburg? I decided to go home after hanging out for a little while. After seeing your photo, I'm sorry I left.

Uhm, id say the train left la veta around 430-5, after waiting for a wetsbound. They roared east trying to save some sunlight. They turned right around and left around 7.

WOW! That is a gorgeous photo! Calender
material, for sure! You lucky guy --
going to get to ride behind 844!
I, too, would love to see more of your
photos.
