SP 144 unpatched on UP Coal line
Author: DocJones

This one kind of snuck up on me but I got it. Former SP 144 unpatched headed west on the U.P Coal line, 10/25/2012 I see the yellow sill but no other UP markings that I could tell.

It was seen from the SP 4449 special to/from Bend, on the UP where the Oregon Trunk climbs up into the canyon after crossing over the river and the UP main.

With all due respect what/where is the "UP coal line"?? That moniker could apply to several routes.....

Aren't white sill reflective stripes also an option for railroads, vs. the yellow?

Yes, white stripes are still an option. However, since UP figures they'll eventually reapaint these into armor yellow, why not just put the yellow stripe on them now?

Sure - 41 deg 41 min 21.81 sec N latitude 103 deg 07 min 00.98 sec W longitude.

OK, I'm being a smart aleck - I just couldn't resist.

The location is at the crossing of the Union Pacific line between O'Fallons and Horse Creek, MP 115.4
The BNSF line is the one that goes from Sterling CO to Alliance NE. The crossing is at their MP 34.4
The place is called Northport and the nearest town is Bridgeport NE

Have fun, be safe, a salute of gratitude to all our veterans

Hi Bruce,
Glad to help. I just couldn't resist putting in the coordinates. It's a great place to watch trains - lots of action and there's pretty good access without trespassing if you stay far enough away from the ROW. We approached from the east down a small road off the main highway. Google Earth or Google Maps is a big help. Look up "Bridgeport, Nebraska" and follow the railroad to the spot.
