Some Snow Yesterday
Author: FrontRangeTrains

I had sometime to kill yesterday so I decided to turn on the scanner hoping to hear something. With luck, BNSF had called an extra Longmont Switcher to make a run up to Fort Collins. Seen here are three SD40-2s (BNSF 1933, 1791, and 1966) racing out of Longmont, CO with a cut of cars bound for the Great Western Railway.

Thanks for looking and Happy Veterans Day!

Great photo John. Definitely Christmas card material. And I concur with the gentleman's comment that the SD40-2's were the best. When we would get called for trains the SD40-2's would out perform any GE. As for the heavy grain trains a pair of SD40-2's with a U30C made the best for tonnage hauling with the GE for assisting with starts and the SD's for speed running and train handling.

Uh Bob, that's why BN assigned U30/C30's to the coal trains? Cause the SD40's were better???

SD40-2's were far and away MY favorite power ever. BN probably used GE's because they were cheaper.
