There's a considerable amount of "US money" flowing into projects to expand Canadian natural gas pipelines to Kitmat, Prince Rupert, etc. Same thing with coal. Several energy companies have announced joint ventures, etc and the Chinese are actively engaged.

If local interests want to block US jobs, there's nothing to stop the investments from flowing to places where jobs are appreciated.
