Victorville, California ~ not so long ago...
Author: MrMRL

BNSF's Victorville Local tied down for the weekend. BNSF Cajon Sub, Victorville, CA (November 26, 2005).

The locals today utilize a pair of graffiti-laced ES44DCs. Makes me really nostalgic for all the Blue & Yellow that one could photograph throughout Southern California just a few years back.

And you're getting old when you can remember that as front line power.

A GP-39--interesting little engine. Add a turbo, get 300 more HP, and now you've got 2300 HP total. Now what? Helper service? Mainline leader?? With this little thing?

BN GP39's earned the name F-unit killers as they allowed replacing the older first generation power with newer less maintainance required GP's. The BN Oregon Trunk/Inside Gateway didn't warrant SD-anythings, so the route became a favored GP-anything application.

They still needed to double the hill out of the Deschutes Canyon though, even with SD40-2's in the later era. A long way off topic from Victorville.
