Track-laying work to begin soon at KC Intermodal Center
Author: JoCoLB

Barring inclement winter weather, track-laying work is expected to take place within the next few weeks at the developing new Kansas City Intermodal Center next to the BNSF Railway's transcon route in the small suburban community of Edgerton, KS.

It appears most of the asphalt paving has been put down in the Intermodal yard area. Some track panels have been stockpiled. Power lines are in place. Building structures were completed during the past year.

Overall site construction work reportedly is a few months ahead of schedule due to a prolonged drought since work commenced in early 2011. The center is expectedly to be operational during the second half of 2013.

Picture Four shows a new railroad bridge near the west approach to the Intermodal yard that will carry the lead tracks for the facility. The lead tracks will curve to the northeast of this rural road intersection. Old Main Two formerly existed in the space between the bridge and the road intersection. A walking trail is being developed on the old Main Two roadbed from this intersection southwest to the actual downtown business district of Edgerton.
