BNSF 156 at Glenwood Avenue Yesterday...
Author: PasadenaSub

I caught BNSF's westbound Pasadena Local in Glendora, CA around mid-day yesterday. I waited at the Glenwood Ave. grade crossing and wound up getting several pictures, with the train slowing to a stop to flag the crossing. This still seems to be the practice here, with the ABS signal system still down (or the crossing signals being flaky). The delay enabled me to walk around and shoot the 156 crossing Glenwood from the street.

Sorry for going overboard on the pictures, I haven't photographed the local for a few weeks.

Thanks for looking,

Rich

Okay, I'm confused here. Why are they flagging the crossing if the ABS system is down?
The ABS has nothing to do with the grade crossing signals.
Or is it that the grade crossing signals are down and that's why they have to flag it.
(Obeying rule 6.32.2, etc...)

A little light on the subject: A holes are stealing the line wire faster than it can be replaced, so if the crossings are DAXed (interconnected) from adjacent ones do to the original speeds of track, the prime directive now is to get the AC wires repaired to keep the batteries charged. If that means using some other pair of to do it, then you use whatever you can.

What it boils down to is if you do not have enough wires left to operate the crossings as they are intended, you make them an island only and flag it, OK?

You have to be in the "Island Circuit" (only several feet long either side of the crossing) to get it to activate...

Not a good plan at 40MPH, so Flagging is required...

Wire theft is the issue...
