Western Railroad Discussion > What is it?Date: 12/16/12 11:51 What is it? Author: SoCalRailFan This morning I saw PRLX engines working a baretable along Cajon Blvd. The number were 3003 and 3005. They look like SD40-2's with a ACe radiator and they're marked PR30C's?

BNSF has purchased four of Progress Rail's (6) PR30C locomotives. These units have been around for a few years now painted (mostly) in UP dress, and have been leased to the UP as part of a test program. The leases were completed recently, and the BNSF has now picked them up. PRLX 3002 has already been repainted in BNSF's H3 dress... http://www.westcoastrailforums.com/thread-7071-post-72084.html The PR30Cs were built off existing SD40-2 locomotive frames, PRLX 3001, ex UP 3816, ex MKT 607 ~ (still back east, owned by Progress Rail) http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/Locopicture.aspx?id=122012 PRLX 3002, ex SOO 763 ~ (now BNSF 1320) http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=417959 PRLX 3003, ex CP 5818 ~ (soon to be BNSF 1321) PRLX 3004, ex CP 5603 ~ (soon to be BNSF 1322) PRLX 3005, ex CP 5647 ~ (soon to be BNSF 1323) PRLX 3006, ex CP ???? ~ (now PHL 40) http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/Locopicture.aspx?id=159608 Mr. MRL Edited 4 time(s). Here's a thread to get started on past sightings in SoCal. The PR30C's were frequently seen couple of years ago at West Colton: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2347910 Date: 12/16/12 12:18 Re: What is it? Author: SoCalRailFan But what the heck are they? I think there's another one I saw in the yard at SB too.
