ATSF - KS Rock Slide Fence

Can't think of another place East of Raton that has a rock slide fence on the BNSF ex-SF. Maybe some place in the Arbuckles in OK?

There are several locations on the BNSF Topeka Sub where you will find slide fences.

Where besides Lecompton, where I should have mentioned this photo was taken?

If I can recall, there is another slide detector just east of Tecumseh.

The one in the photo is just east of Lecompton, I think it's the only one on the Topeka sub. We used to have one just up the hill from Craig on the Emporia, but they took it out about ten years ago.

The only one on the Topeka Sub is this one, from MP 36.9 to MP 37.2.

Rock Slide Fences east of Raton and Abo Canyon?

One two in the last ATSF Timetable in 1995:

Emporia Sub: MP 20.4-20.6 (East of Craig)
Topeka Sub: MP 36.9 to 37.2 (Between Lake View and Tecumseh)

While not on the BNSF, the UP has a rock slide fence along the Kansas Asia just west of Bonner Springs, KS.

They have always needed one at "Deadmans" curve, south of Douglas, KS. Several trains have run into rocks & boulders there on the 25 mph curve, but none was ever installed. I always worried about ending up in the river there because of a slide.

You guys are mistaken. According to a loud mouthed stooge in the lounge car of the CZ passing through Glenwood Canyon a few years ago who was trying to impress his lady friend and anyone else within ear shot, that is a snow melter.

What a maroon.

If he wants to see a snow melter, it should have been on the ATSF in Arizona where the Santa Fe used infrared heaters over switches for awhile.
