CNW Heritage Sherman, BNSF blade train today
Author: highgreengraphics

Early today an eastbound ZLAAH 26 Doublestack led by UP C&NW Heritage 1995 went eastbound over Sherman Hill and through Cheyenne. On my way to Cheyenne to get it, I noticed a long line of wind turbine blades in the distance with a BNSF Goatboat up front, and I suddenly had two trains to chase in different directions.

Photos 1 and 2 - 1995 eastbound surmounts Sherman Summit at the "Highest Point on the Transcontinental Railroad" sign.

Photo 3 - 1995 rounding the curve at East Borie, WY where the Borie cutoff rejoins Mains 1 and 2.

There's Mooore...

Photo 4 - 1995 passing under the C&S Bridge at West Cheyenne with the northbound BNSF Vestas wind turbine blade train overhead, which originated at the Vestas plant in Windsor, CO on Great Western Railway.

Photo 5 - Lifting many containers out of Cheyenne and the Crow Creek valley, the ZLAAH 26 is underway eastward climbing Archer Hill near Archer after a swift crew change, time to buzz north to try to catch up with BNSF.

Photo 6 - I finally caught up with the turbine blade train as it was nosing around the curve into Horse Creek, WY. Here it is right next to Milepost 155 just north of Horse Creek.

There's Mooore...

Photo 7 - Climbing the compound curves between Horse Creek and Altus, WY.

Photo 8 - Splitting the big city of Farthing, WY.

Photo 9 - Moving right along between Farthing and Lambert, WY, where the blacktop ends on Horse Creek Road. I had to get back home as today is our 35th Wedding Anniversary, and Mom and I had a date for a nice dinner at Red Lobster!

Happy anniversary railfanning! === === = === JLH
