Thanks to SP8595 and cozephyr for the tips, I headed out this morning to catch the UP Operation Lifesaver Special running out of Greeley, CO. People riding the train gathered at the UP Depot, now the Chamber of Commerce building for the city of Greeley gathered on the platform waiting for the arrival of the special which was running from La Salle up to Greeley. Getting close to 9 o'clock, the train finally showed up. Members from Union Pacific and Operation Lifesaver got the people aboard safely for a round trip down to Platteville and back. There were crews on each locomotive with law enforcement from both the Weld County Sheriffs Department and Greeley Police on board as well looking out for any grade crossing violations. After chasing the special to Platteville and up to La Salle, I hung out with cozephyr for a bit until the second trip of the OLS showed up. With nothing much running anywhere, it was time to head home.

2) Union Pacific and Operation Lifesaver members get ready to help the first passengers board the train.

3) After holding the main for a bit at Platteville, the OLS rounds the curve just north of Platteville heading back to Greeley.

4) The OLS special slows as they approach the town of La Salle, CO.

5) With trip number two underway, UP #8772 leads the OLS special departs La Salle as they head down to Platteville and back. Earlier this afternoon, they ended up doing some more trips out of Fort Lupton.
