todays returning Pikes Peak Local . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . BNSF's twice south (Mon Thurs) to Drennen which is just north of Crews and south of Colorado Springs, and twice north back to Denver (Tues Fri, it turns at Big Lift on Wed) has had the faded and worn exSanta Fe B40-8W for three plus weeks now but yesterday was the first day it had an exSanta Fe GP on the north end of the power so today kept my eye and ears open to catch it on it's return trip to Denver from south of Colorado Springs. With sunny skies, although not quite in the nose, the local headed north out of Monument siding after meeting a southbound BNSF empty welded rail train (top) and was approaching Palmer Lake (below) at the "secret spot". Just another day in the neighborhood.

Even with the sunshine it looks frosty cold there! Guess I'm bummed looking out at the lead-gray cold we have here in OZ...

Today was actually the warmest day in nearly three weeks! We hit 57 at the detector at MP48.5 which is three miles north of here.
