Completely lost a train in there one day while trying to chase it. it must have ducked into a building. I'm no K W-Y.

Stan Praisewater Date: 12/14/13 20:11 Re: Switch job #101 in NW Portland Author: PasadenaSub Nice pictures, Chris. Looks like you took these before the cold snap? I was in Portland and Salem last Friday through Monday with a bit of snow and ice all 4 days.

Ted Curphey Ontario, OR Date: 12/15/13 00:33 Re: Switch job #101 in NW Portland Author: Jim700 Looking at Chris' highlighted map, if you're sitting in the cab of the 3613 on the highlighted rail line approximately above the word "Private" seen below the picture you can take a picture of Mt. Hood perfectly framed by the peak and ends of the central span of the Fremont Bridge.
I spent many a happy Sunday working the extra 12th Street switcher off of the Portland hoghead extra board in the early '70s, frequently with conductor Harold Gjerman. As I recall, his frequent greeting upon entering the now-gone 12th Street shack at the lower left corner of the picture was "What'll it be boys, 4 or 14?" I think that the switcher comes out of Willbridge. I was at Portland Brewing a few years ago and watched the switcher while sipping a beer on the patio. A great day indeed! |
