Western Railroad Discussion > access to Tehachapi Loop areaDate: 12/30/13 13:37 access to Tehachapi Loop area Author: EastKSRailfan Are there places around Tehachapi Loop that are off limits now? I have a memory of a discussion in the recent past but did not find it when I did a quick search. I was there back in 1999 when I could go almost anywhere (I did not attempt to walk into the tunnel itself).
Carl Graves, Lawrence, KS Date: 12/30/13 13:51 Re: access to Tehachapi Loop area Author: daniel3197 Very very very SADLY the Tehachapi loop is now strictly OFF limits to the public according to this TO discussion thread from March of 2012.
This is to inform folks in advance so they are not heartbroken when they arrive in the area. --- Daniel : http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2720280,2720888#msg-2720888 ============== Date: 03/22/12 13:04 Tehachapi Loop news Author: P5r24 Watching T.O. member cchan006's cool Tehachapi snow videos, I thought I let out some rather bad news about the Loop area. I had Breakfast Sunday morning a few weeks ago with the Loop Ranch Forman and his assistant along a few other good friends from the area at the Keene Cafe down below the loop. If you haven't noticed, there are some new heavy duty Gate posts and fencing installed at the entrance of the dirt road leading up to the loop right off of paved Keene road. Under pressure from the U.P. in Omaha, BNSF corporate and the constant battle the Loop Ranch Forman & crew have with Railfans and visitors blocking the road into the Loop Ranch, they will be installing two big Locked steel gates on those new gate posts very soon. This means nobody will have access to the center of the Loop anymore- pedestrian foot traffic included. The Ranch Forman is a real cowboy along with his crew. He says if anyone is caught on the Loop Ranch property by him or any of his crew, they won't be happy riding out of the area in the back of the Sheriffs squad car. The other big reason is still the continuing Non Railfan thefts going on with all the stack & container trains up and down the pass by the scum balls coming up from the central valley. Night time is the worst time when trains stop for meets and the like. This is not because Rusty has gone postal by the way, we've already heard enough about him & his anti railfan activities, so please No Flames about him on this post. There is still plenty of good legal places and room in the pass to railfan from, around the Loop and else where, but this is a big setback for the honest and law abiding railfans that most of us are. Its a shame things have come to this point, but railfans & visiters beware and don't be surprized when you see those big gates Gary ============== EastKSRailfan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Are there places around Tehachapi Loop that are > off limits now? ...Lorenzo Date: 12/30/13 14:20 Re: access to Tehachapi Loop area Author: TCnR Curious who owns the Ranch now. the long time owner passed away, did the property go to relatives, or onto the market or what. Seems like an odd place for anybody not aware of trains or history.
I did take photos from the small hills and over the tunnels in the 80's, but I tended to like the lower loops and Woodford. Date: 12/30/13 14:33 Re: access to Tehachapi Loop area Author: fbe Trackside access to the loop, the road to the tunnel and many railroad access roads are no longer available. All of the paved roads and all public road crossings are open.
Go, have fun, take lots of photos. Posted from Windows Phone OS 7 Date: 12/30/13 14:38 Re: access to Tehachapi Loop area Author: MojaveBill Same family owns the ranch. Very nice people who contribute to the community. The new Tehachapi Hospital is being built on land they donated...

The new Tehachapi > Hospital is being built on land they donated... That would be the Broome family who are/were based in Oxnard (or Ventura) IIRC. They own lots of acreage in southern California and were very gracious back in 1994 when our then 35 year old son asked if he and his bride could be married there under an oak above tunnel 9. It was a wonderful event!! how many mother's-of-the groom wear a scanner hooked on to the back pocket of white designer jeans!!????? C.
