Columbia Draw

From the middle of the span north (up) is Washington, South is Oregon. The two track to the left are the Seattle Subdivision, and the two to the right are the start of the Fallbridge Sub to Pasco.

Nice Shots. Seems so often the flight path into PDX is right over the Vancouver Depot.

A nice view of the new track (under the north, or far end of the bridge) that will create a loop for grain trains. This is supposed to increase the amount of grain that can be handled per day.

Nice photo, they try to keep the traffic in and out of PDX over the river at low altitudes for noise mitigation...

Somebody should decorate the ends of those talgo sets - they look like cat's ears.

NORMALLY, they have an engine on the end, or at least a cabbage! But those young, underexperienced crews in Portland didn't know that. Shame. Oh, where have all the dedicated Amtrak Cascades engines gone? I haven't seen one in months...

Reminds me of the TV ads they aired back when the Cascades were introduced ("it's not a wing...it's a caboose"). Almost as good as the Surfliner ads of the same era ("it comes fully equipped...3000 horsepower"), almost certainly done by the same agency. Both still seem fresh, though the fact that only "1-800-USA-RAIL" is listed at the end (no mention of a website) dates them somewhat.
