Wichita Wheel Report - WAMX Wooo Shock Unveiled
Author: WAMXGUY

As some of you know, Wichita State University has had a phenomenal basket ball season this year - undefeated. Today, at 10:00 CDT, K&O officials introduced the Wooo Shock Locomotive (WAMX GP40-2LW 4001)to the public. Attached photos say it all.

How long from conception of the idea to today when it was unveiled?

Good coverage! Thanks for posting. I think the K&O deserves a train-load of praise for this nifty gesture!

That is really cool and a big thanks goes to Watco for their efforts they put forth in the communities they serve. I have the Cherryvale Chargers and Pittsburg Gorilla units and look forward to shooting this one someday also. Thanks for showing.

Interesting. Is that a comfort cab? If it is, I was always under the impression that EMD only built GP60M's with a comfort cab for Santa Fe.

CN had wide cab GP40/38s. These are some of the GP40s

I like the way the K&O stencils the model number and horsepower rating on the front of the repainted engines.

Appropriate they used an ex-CN engine since WSU seniors Chadrack Lufile, and Nick Wiggins are Canadian.

Wide NOSE not wide CAB. The cab is the same width. The NOSE is different.

I have noticed that they tend to number their engines based on the model. GP40's are 40## a GP35 would be 35##. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems to be the case with "most" I have seen.

That would be a correct assumption. GP38s are in the 3800 class, a few GP20 are 2000's, SW1500s are 1500's, and so on.
