A new unit heads to seattle WA
Author: tc

I caught up to the N/B seattle bound train today in soledad canyon with the UP 8855 in the lead. 3rd is the lonely DPU bringing up the rear

Photo 1: That rock looks so creepy. The big boulder above the coupling between the two engines looks like it has a face, like the evil boulder in "Thomas The Tank Engine" that wanted to roll along the train tracks.

Nice photos! I'm in Oregon along this train's route, so I'll be on the lookout for it. Happy rails to you,

Tor in Eugene

I love how dry the desert is, but down in the wash, all the trees are green due to the slow, silent, underground river flow...the trees roots have found the water.

Oh trust me, there is some water running in that riverbed.

Is there now a Los Angeles-Seattle intermodal train or is the term "seattle bound" used because it's heading north, that direction?

Still seems odd that UP doesn't have a large enough intermodal traffic base to run direct Puget Sound to/from southern California intermodal trains? Back in the SP days, there was the obvious lack of access to Puget Sound for SP, except for the joint run through traffic that connected to BN's sprint trains (can't remember their number right off hand), however, with UP's direct access, and a "longer haul" which railroads say make them more competitive for intermodal traffic, I wonder why there isn't enough traffic to justify an entire train instead of having what traffic there is just connect to other trains operating north of Portland?

In this case, Seattle bound running as an ILBSE symbol.
By the time it got to Brooklyn today for set out & pick up the train had all the power on the head end (3 units), also the domestic containers were no longer in train as photographed by tc.
