Was in Fullerton Ca today. What are the rusty tracks that are next to Bashurty (sp) Rd? Who owns them, and do grins run down them?

Old UP Anaheim Branch, hasn't been used in a few years.

At one time you could have seen two other railroads operating in that area, the ATSF and PE. Here's a map that I found online years ago, I believe on a site that dealt with the citrus industry in the area.

Is that the spur that served Hunt's at one time?

Hunts was right there at Basta. Had sidings from both the Santa Fe and the UP.

When I left the area in 2001, the UP was still switching Hunts, or at least I recall that it was.

Thank you all for the information. Sorry about the misspelling of the road. There is industry at the end of the ROW near the BNSF tracks, I assume that they get switched by them. Very senic location. Would be nice for a tourist train......

What years did the Santa Fe spur and PE line disappear?

There nothing left of the entire Hunt's complex. Totally removed and "redeveloped".

I think that passenger service to Fullerton ended about 1939. Freight service continued until abandonment in 1962, according to the website below. In 2001 there were still tracks across Imperial Highway for perhaps a hundred yards. I never saw them used, but apparently they were in place for the rare switching move to some business on the north side of Imperial. In the '90s I was able to follow much of the ROW from Imperial Highway into Fullerton via mountain bike. I don't know the status of the ROW now.

Hunt's is gone but Cargill is still nextdoor as it has been for decades. The UP Anaheim Branch connects to BNSF where it used to cross at Basta. Starting about five years ago, all of Cargill's tankcar traffic was given to BNSF and they switch it at night via the UP connection.

UP has no reason to come to Fullerton anymore because Cargill was the only customer.

The PE right of way is pretty much the same today as it was in the 90's. UP line still goes to Basta but not used for years. Last time it was used was when the tracks next to Interstate 5 in Buena Park needed to be relocated duo to freeway reconstruction. PE is still a bike/hiking trail except were the North Orange County Court house is in Fullerton. Tracks still cross Imperial Highway and have updated crossing signals but little if any used. Old PE Depot in Fullerton is a restaurant.

I ate there some 25 years ago when it was Il Ghiotto ("The Delicious"). The website I mentioned in an earlier post shows the restaurant as being named "Spadra."

Where but in Fullerton can you find three train stations so close together, two of which are restaurants now? I always that it was a unique situation.

It's a 3-fer:

ex-PE: Spadra went under. For now it's "Hopscotch Tavern".
ex-UP: Old Spaghetti Factory (depot was moved from the other side of the UP & ATSF tracks & rotated 90 deg.)
ex-ATSF: The active Amtrak/Metrolink depot has a cafe.

How could I have forgotten the cafe? I guess I was thinking only of full-service restaurants. I do remember the cafe and in fact had a sandwich there onseveral occasions. It seemed there were always a few railfans sitting around outside.
