Western Railroad Discussion > Spring Break Road Trip!Date: 04/19/14 06:21 Spring Break Road Trip! Author: GrandeGold I enjoyed a delightful Spring Break road trip on Thursday. During my journey I visited Provo, Soldier Summit, Scofield, Helper, Price, Heber City, Echo, Morgan, and Ogden, some 425 total miles! Here's a few highlights:
1. A former SP AC4400CW leads the WPRPRR 16 at Gilluly, preparing to drop rail along the old D&RGW in Spanish Fork Canyon. 2-3. I caught a CTRSK coal train rambles past Scofield Reservoir on UP's Pleasant Valley Subdivision. The empty from Trona will reload at Skyline. 5. A newly reactivated C40-8 (blt. Feb. 1988) works UP's hot KG1CI 15 through Morgan. 6. New signaling is in place at Echo coupled with CTC and PTC. The old dispatcher controlled "hold' signals along the Evanston Subdivision will be history by next year. James Belmont Salt Lake City, UT Date: 04/19/14 06:31 Spring Break Road Trip! Author: GrandeGold 7-8. The ZNPOA 16 passes through Echo with a quartet of EMD SD70Ms. The last five pack well car on the train was interesting.
9. A few minutes later the MNPRVB 16 rambled through Echo by with a mix of cars. James Belmont Salt Lake City, UT Date: 04/19/14 06:34 Spring Break Road Trip! Author: GrandeGold 10. Traffic along I-84 races by while the MNPWC 16 makes an appearance at Stoddard Lane just west of Morgan.
11. Lastly, the hot ZDVSC 17 rolls through rural Morgan Valley, bound for the Salt Lake City Intermodal Terminal. Thanks for taking the tour, James Belmont Salt Lake City, UT Date: 04/19/14 09:38 Re: Spring Break Road Trip! Author: bandob Incredible shots! Thanks for posting. I'm making note of the locations for my June trip to Utah!

You done good, GRANDE GOLD. Thanks for the compliments, guys! B&OB, take the old highway through Echo Canyon west to Henefer. Much better access for photos. A majority of the line from Henefer to Ogden is along I-84. James Belmont Salt Lake City, UT Date: 04/19/14 11:01 Re: Spring Break Road Trip! Author: ns1000 NICE set of pics!!! Thanks for sharing.

Very nice group, I love seeing the new well cars and the C40-8 on a train. Although it kind of makes me feel old, and I'm not old! I can recall seeing those being delivered new to the railroads. Hell I recall the new SD40-2's now I really feel old! Kris Date: 04/19/14 11:42 Re: Spring Break Road Trip! Author: wesleygreer Great group of shots, love that place.
