PNW "Where is it"?
Author: sagehen

Previous posts should narrow this down. The track on the left is "live", and the one on the right had been "live" not long ago.

I do not know where it was, but do you have any more photos of the push car? Was it chained down?

Well from the previous posts, it's most likely the Vancouver area. But looking at the condition of the track, trees & buildings, it could just as easily have been a far-off corner of the old NP line in Woodinville, WA. However that line has been OOS since 2008 and would be far more weed-strewn.

I think we'll all miss the Wilburton Sub - may all the Lake Washington developers & landowners rot in solid 405 traffic for their NIMBY ways...

This is Battle Ground, Washington. There use to be a tin maintenance shed here with the Battle Ground sign but it was removed after a fire last year. And yes, the push car is chained to the rail. There was a hand car mounted crane here also but it seemed to disappear with the shed.

The main line on the left is still active. We get about three covered hoppers of plastic pellets each week for the milk jug plant - we have an active milk bottling plant to use the jugs. The spur to the right is unused with some of the points removed.

Exactly it.

Are the hopper cars delivered on any kind of schedule? The bottling plant seems to be the only customer past I-205. Operated by Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad. Business seems to be growing. Interchange with the BNSF is very primitive. Cars delivered by the BNSF are shoved up the line just a bit by the BNSF. The PVJ gets them and pulls them back to Rye Jct. It then shoves cars to the BNSF. No run around, no siding, so this is all they can do.

Don't know about the schedule, but there is usually another hopper spotted on a siding in Brush Prairie - possibly grain for the feed store. The railroad is owned by the county and leased to the shortline. Perhaps someone from BYCX.org will contribute more info.
